Every year, Grand Blanc Community Schools food service has to complete an act of community service as a part of the “Be-A-Star Committee.” This year’s project was Plato’s Closet 2.0. The goal was to supply GBHS families with clothing and toiletries that they may not be able to otherwise afford.

The idea came to be when administrators were looking for a way to bring attention to the Plato’s Closet 2.0, located at West Campus.

“We asked central office for some help and had a two week collection period,” head of dining services, Karen Smith said.

Collection dates were between March 10 and March 21, where everything from shampoo to yoga pants  were being asked for.

On March 27, the “Be-A-Star” committee unveiled the collected items, and the turnout was amazing.

“We collected over 50 bags worth of stuff over our collection period,” Smith said.

Even a few Prom dresses and dress shirts were donated, in an effort to help out during Prom season.

The food service and central office staff completed their goal of helping the closet stay open for students who need it.
